Test firing of the first stage of F9-R--advanced prototype for the world's first reusable rocket. The test took place at SpaceX's rocket development facility in McGregor, TX, lasting 112 seconds. Unlike airplanes, a rocket's thrust increases with altitude; F9-R generates just over a million pounds of thrust at sea level but gets up to 1.5 million pounds of thrust in the vacuum of space.

- EndLessNess: but you can and we do recycle urine moisture and sweat to drinking water. What do you think the guys in the iss drink? and they say that it taste better "purer tasting water" Chris Hadfield. It is cheaper to re-use what you have. Why do you think the Space shuttle was built for?
- 22Tr0y: Straight to the alternate universe before any other galaxy hey?
- doggzilla1: Elon is probably what we call an INTJ. What makes an INTJ so special, is the ability to recall what they know, and more importantly, what they do not know. This allows them to judge very accurately compared to others, but they still do no meet their own standards. There are millions of INTJs, but unfortunately, most dont have the resources to use their talent. Worse, INTJs often solve workplace problems, but are attacked by management for being "insubordinate". Think Steve Jobs.
- CasusUniversum: Also those are kind of the same thing.
- KK: yes i mean it, this is really fantastic. and i can tell u, it's way easier than i thought do a few surveys and boom a few $100 extra in your bank every week. its worth a try here: bit.ly\181KH0z
- Bill McGonigle: Besides the rocket scientists, kudos to the engineers who built that stand. Pretty amazing to be able to trust your math and your welders to make sure the rocket doesn't accidentally wind up in Alabama on the first test.
- patswickedpissah: No they are kerosene
- Daniels30: All payloads...
- Ben Garrison: Awesome.
- TheGailpaul00: I got to tour SpaceX on recently. When I did that, the guide explained all the major parts of building the spacecraft in language that even non rocket scientists could understand. He also talked about some of the goals looking forward. Really incredible to see how the team works together at each phase. They really are a team. Free frozen yogurt sundaes after the tour was a nice touch!
